What makes the difference with children
Child seats ready in the car
Booked in advance and fitted before you land, so the first ten minutes of the holiday aren't spent on a car-park floor reading an instruction leaflet.
Boot space that takes the cases
The seven-seater and the leisure van both swallow a family's luggage. If you're four with big cases, the third row folds and you have a van-sized boot.
An extra driver, easily
Add a second name so you can share the driving. On a two-week stay with beaches at both ends of the island, it matters more than it sounds.
Beaches the buses reach slowly
Golden Bay, Għajn Tuffieħa and Għadira are the ones children actually want, and all three are far easier with a car and a boot full of towels.
Family hire — common questions
- Can I get child seats fitted?
- Yes — add child seats when you book and they're in the car before you arrive rather than being wrestled with in the car park. Tell us the ages so we bring the right stage.
- Do I need a seven-seater for two adults and two children?
- Usually not. An SUV or compact SUV handles four comfortably with the boot for cases. The 7-Seater earns its place at five or more, or when you want the third row folded down for a genuinely large boot.
- Is a big car a problem on Maltese roads?
- It can be. Village streets are narrow, the older towns were built for carts, and parking in Sliema or Paceville is tight for anything large. Plenty of families take a compact SUV rather than the biggest thing available, and are glad of it by day three.
- What's the minimum age to hire and to drive?
- 21 to hire, with a supplement for drivers under 25. Additional drivers can be added so you're not the only one driving for a fortnight — worth doing on a longer stay.
Ready when you are
The island's 7,000 years of history aren't going anywhere — but the July deals are.
