FAQ
Everything you need to know
The details behind a MaltaBest hire — from licences and insurance to taking the car across to Gozo. Still stuck? The desk is one message away.
Booking & requirements
What you need, how to book and how airport pickup works.
What do I need to hire a car in Malta?
A valid driving licence (EU licences and most international licences are fine), a passport or ID card, and a credit or debit card for the booking. Drivers should be 21 or over — under-25s pay a small young-driver supplement.
How does airport pickup work?
We're at Park East, at Malta International Airport — out of arrivals, turn right and straight on for a few minutes. Send us your flight number and we track the delays so you don't have to.
Driving in Malta & Gozo
Local roads, the Gozo ferry and getting around the islands.
Which side of the road does Malta drive on?
The left, like the UK — all our cars are right-hand drive. Most visitors are comfortable within ten minutes, and automatics make it even easier.
Can I take the car to Gozo?
Absolutely. Take the Ċirkewwa–Mġarr ferry with the car, or collect a car in Victoria instead. Just mention Gozo when you book.
Insurance, fuel & cover
What's included, excess options and our fuel policy.
Is insurance really included?
Yes — every hire comes with full comprehensive cover. You can reduce the excess to zero at checkout if you want total peace of mind.
What's the fuel policy?
Full-to-full — you get a full tank and bring it back full. No prepaid-fuel games, no refuelling 'service charges'.
